Pride and Prejudice

One of my goals is to read the classics. You know, Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, etc. And this week, I tick off one more title! :D

I saw “Pride and Prejudice” in the library last week, and quickly grabbed it :D I’ve been curious and wanting to know about the book, so since I have the time to read during the O-week, I did J
First of all, I love the title of the book, and other Jane Austen’s books. Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Persuasion? Genius titles!

Regarding the story itself, I don’t know!! I’m torn between loving it and disliking it. For me, the pace of the book is slow at some parts, making it quite… boring? Like Lydia’s ‘marriage’, it did show the contrast, but for me it feels out-of-place. And why does Elizabeth had to travel and stay with other people for such a lengthy amount of time? Is it the culture of the time? Maybe it’s the cultural thing that I don’t really get. And of course, the language (and even some of the spelling) is a bit different than modern English, so it took a while to understand and to follow.

But I think what makes this book different than other books that I’ve read is that its main ‘theme’ is love! Yes, although it follows other themes (sisterhood, family, politics, etc.), the love story of Elizabeth and Mr Darcy is the red string that connects all the dots. I like that, although it’s a long long way to tell this love story.

Another thing that I like about the book is the progress of how Elizabeth finds ‘love’ in Mr Darcy. She initially disliked him a lot, partly because she is the ‘prejudice’ part of the title: she’s quick to give judgment about people before hearing the whole truth. But I love that she finds Mr Darcy quite irresistible. And yes, I fancy Mr Darcy too <3 span="" style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
I think as he’s depicted mysteriously in the book, it makes the reader curious of him, although at first me might agree with Elizabeth and dislike him.

The book reflects the society of the past and today, and a never-dying theme, therefore I think it deserves to be called one of the classics :)

Overall it’s an amazing part of my reading journey, and maybe one day I’ll read it again from a fresher perspective and learn more about the book. But for now, YAY! Another goal accomplished! :D

CHEERS!
