Week 8 Semester 1

Wow. It's 1 months before swotvac, and barely two months before heading home.
PTL!

5-6 weeks ago I promised myself to do something nice to celebrate 2/3 of the semester, but I have been having a lot of fun in the past few weeks that I don't need to do anything too too special this week :)
Well, in saying that..

I did bake some cookies for the iCare yesterday :D Which was totally fun & yum! If only I remember to let the butter soften before I started mixing, I probably won't have this ache in my arms though. But it's okay! ^^
Everyone enjoyed it, PTL !

I also bought my tickets to see ballet!!!! WOHOO ! My second ballet; the TOP of my list ballet. ^^ Cannot wait!

I read two books this week (didn't I?)
I finished Wuthering Heights and Double Fudge Brownie Murder. I enjoy this reading spree so much ~~

I went to the library twice this week; one of which lasted until 11 pm. But it was all good, bcs I wasn't in the library alone. When studying become a social thing, it's super fun! Of course in saying 'social' I didn't mean discussions etc. Everyone brings their own books, laptops, and headphones and gets lost in their own work.
But then there was the food, and laughter, and smiles :)

Oh, did I forget to mention that we had a long weekend last week? Anzac day! We had an incredible day studying on the rooftop deck, munching on chips and grapes. I love holidays x_x

Well. Only 4 weeks of classes in this semester. It shall get interesting, shall it not?

"Wuthering Heights" by Emily Brontë

This book has been on top of my 'must-read' list for quite a while, (especially since I read "Refrain" :D ) so when the opportunity comes, I ceased it by the scruff! :D

I was kind of excited at the prospect of reading it, but note to self, I should probably look the books up before I read it.

I've read the work of the Brontë sisters before, which is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, and I love it! So I do have certain expectations for this one, certain ideas of how this will turn out. But once I began on the first page, I knew all those expectations were not going to be met. I went in with the wrong armor.

I thought this book is going to be another book about love etc., and while it is, it's not the kind of romantic, full of flowers, sweet sweet love. It's quite rough and dark. It circles around unusual themes, as opposed to being a love story. There are many times where I raised my eyebrows, quite shocked of what's happening and the characters' personalities. AND *SPOILER* it does not necessarily end happily either, I think. x_x

It's not an easy read. Honestly, as soon as I finished reading, I went straight to wikipedia to confirm everything I've read. Fortunately I did get most of the story :D But Emily Brontë's style of writing is very poetic. You might have to read it a few times, or read between the lines. The use of similar names also confused me, and I'm not sure if it is by accident or by design. Nevertheless, reading the book is an amazing experience, one that I'd like to journey through again one day! :D

Week 7 Semester 1

Remember how cheerful I was in week 6? It was gone.
The 'me' in week 7 is quite stressed out, confused, and in need of help. HELP!

I went to the library with my friends 3 for nights this week - that's a record! And it was fun! :)
Had to re-work some of the writings that I've done, but it's okay now. I think.

Still, I went through 2 short books, got a keepcup (love!), received my new phone casing, and had a really fun time @ iCare last night !
We finished at 12 am x_x but time really did fly. I was sleepy, but I wish I could stay longer.

The weather is quite funny. It gets warm and then cold, but then it gets warm again. Hmph. I enjoyed it, though. I like warm weather ^^

I don't know what's going to happen net week, but I hope it's gonna be a good one.

I'm over the half way mark - starting to go down the slope towards the finish line. It's gonna go pretty fast, but I feel like there are still tons to do. Yikes!

"Nights in Rodanthe" - Nicholas Sparks

I haven't been reading Nicholas Sparks' books for a while - not new ones, I mean. Of course I re-read my old ones! :D

But it's because I've noticed a pattern in most of his books, and it just becomes predictable :') Only a few books 'deviate' from the norm.. including this one!

I've watched bits of Nights in Rodanthe before (Richard Gere, hello?), but I haven't fully known the story.
And as cheesy as it is, I LOVE THIS STORY!! :):)

Because I've watched the movie, I have a 'visual' of the setting of the inn (cuz I don't think it's extensively described in the book) and of the beach. And it's a good starting point, bcs the story really starts there.

The journey is, well, kind of expected. (Of course you saw it coming. Why do you read NS' books?) But what I actually really adore is the ending. I won't spoil it here, but it's the best part of the book I think :)
I think it makes the whole book a whole lot more meaningful than when you're still in the middle of it. Not a lot of ending does that. Most of the time they just emphasize something, or stamp something on your forehead, forcing you to remember the book. This one, for me does the opposite. It eases its way out, and carry you away with it. It lifts the story you just read. It is amazing!!

Now I'd really like to watch the movie and see if it is accurate (or better, or worse) than the book. Compare compare!
And I'm - more than ever - quite keen on reading "See Me" :D

A good one, Nicky. A good one.

Hari Kartini 2016

Selamat hari Kartini, para perempuan Indonesia!

Melihat foto upload-an salah satu guruku dulu, aku langsung teringat 'Javanese Day' (kalo nggak salah) di kelas 7; kami harus memakai batik hari itu untuk memperingati hari Kartini. ^^

Tapi kenapa Kartini?

And it just so happen that after months and months, I'm back to my routine of watching Mata Najwa di Rabu malam :)
I love last night's episode --> Palu Ibu Hakim.

Selamat menjadi Perempuan Indonesia!

Cheers!

"New York" and "Paris" - Edward Rutherfurd

Waktu lihat judul dan premis "New York", I was instantly interested. (I mean, come on!) So I reserved the book from the library, and when the book arrived, I went to pick it up.... I didn't realize how MASSIVE the book is! It's over 1000 pages x_x and I was instantly scared but excited at the same time.

And I enjoyed the book!

I really liked how the book went back several decades to early New York (even when it was not called by that name yet.) So we kind of see in glimpses the background of the city, and how it became what it is right now. It covers a time period of around over 400 years, revolving around several families. This is what captured me first. How the story stayed within the same family over the generations. Jadi nggak asal pindah-pindah dan ganti-ganti karakter, but we had a bit of idea of their backgrounds etc.

I love the involvement of non-fictional characters and buildings in the book! George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, the Chrysler (?) building, and of course the 9-11. I love how these real characters interacted with the fictional ones. Memang jadi terasa mengada-ada, but it's a book of fiction anyway! :)

I love the subtle way it ends. It's kind of happy, but also it circles back to where the book started.
I was quite glad when I finished the book :D

But I'm not ready to stop reading just yet :') So I found its sister (or brother?), "Paris". Written in similar style, it's only over 700 pages long. I liked it too, but not as much as I like New York :) Still, it brought us to the famous Eiffel tower, the Arc de Triomphe, and we meet Monsieur Eiffel himself; the Revolution, arts (particularly painting), and other Parisian icons.

I still enjoy the generational characters in this boook (even though I mixed up the name a lot! Not that they are similar or anything like that...); but I just didn't relate to the book as I did with New York.
I also preferred New York's ending than Paris'. Maybe because New York ends in my time, and Paris ended at an earlier time. Also, because New York's 'national' language is English and Paris' is French but it is written in English, I think it made the experience not as authentic. Maybe.

Both books were really spectacular works nevertheless! Imagine the research process. Long. Imagine the time it took to write 700-1000 pages of words! Ages.

I might go and read some of Rutherfurd's other books and find out about other cities of the world, because 'traveling' through time and space is always fun!

Cheers to that!

"Intelegensi Embun Pagi" - Dee Lestari *SPOILER Alert!*

I ordered the book when I was still in Indo, and had to feel the agony of waiting for my book to 'arrive' while others had finished their journey!
But nevertheless, the book did arrive and I embarked on this journey. And what an amazing journey it is!
Dan antisipasi cerita-ending over the few days that I was reading malah membuat proses membacanya semakin seru.

Tapi it's a really good hint on what's coming.

And what's coming is crazy!!
Semua yang kita (pikir kita) tahu diputar balik, dan semua karakter-karakter mendapat their moment to shine.  (yay!) This book is really an epic journey.

Pertama, panjangnya.

I learned a lot about consistency from Supernova as a whole dan dari IEP.
Belum pernah aku liat 'langsung' proses menulisnya sebuah buku - yang ternyata quite lengthy and takes a long time - tapi Dee stayed on it, wrestled with it, and gave us the most story and journey. WOW.

I also learned how patient she is!

What I love most about this book is the ending, actually :)
Kita selesai mengikuti perjalanan mereka, tapi mereka masih punya cerita lanjutan. It doesn't feel like the world is ending!

If you have spare time and want to embark on an amazing reading marathon, then I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Supernova series! In fact, I might do that myself over the holiday :D

You're an absolute inspiration!

Week 6 Semester 1

Mulai deg"an soal nilai, bukan cuma sekedar 'nyelesaiin' tugas :') afterall kalo kelar tp ga pass juga percuma :p

Walaupun begitu, Melbourne is not a bad second home at all. Although the weather is cray-cray. You're hot then you're cold, Melbie.

Masih ada kira-kira 2 assignment/test utk 4 subject, & I'm terrified, but I'm still soo eager to learn. Can't wait for next semester too!

But this week is not only the halfway mark of uni, it's also a mark of something new. We're starting a new iCare (say "Yaay!") iCare One multiplied & now we have iCare Trinity :)
I'm so priviledged & proud to be part of this new iCare with the most amazing peeps, almost half of which are from Semarang :p:p
We'll grow together, laugh and cry together, and keep each other strong!
We're young, but we won't let anything hinder us from bringing Glory to God!

I'm in Heaven ^^
Hopefully nothing goes wrong after this, because somehow this starts to feel like the middle of act 2.

Week 5 Semester 1

This week is "assignment due" week!
Had 2 assignments due this week, 1 test, and 1 assignment to finish to be submitted next week. Wohoo!

We're past the 1/3 way mark, and it seems like I'm enjoying every second of Uni! :D
The assignments I've had were 'friendly'. Although I wished I could do a better job, I'm quite happy :)
Hopefully it pays off x_x NERVOUS!!

I'm quite relaxed this week, therefore, but will need to start on the next assignment soon!

But this week is not all about school --> I had my sister over for 2 weeks and though she'd went home now, we had a lot of fun! Quick trips to NGV, Southbank, and just soak up the beauty of Melbourne ^^

ALSO I went to try for Paskibra :) I have no idea how this is going to turn out, but even the chance to come together and practice for the next 2 weeks is awesome. I've missed it so much, and my body is not taking it nicely x_x HAHA

We'll see :)

By the end of next week, we've reached the 1/2 way mark. I wonder how it would feel...

Cheers!

Easter - Mid semester break :)

I have been waiting for this break ever since I got back in Melbourne x_x HA!
And it was AMAZING!

I had my family over --> my grandparents and my sister <3 p="">
I got to enjoy a little bit of quiet-Melbourne during the Easter Saturday - Easter Monday :)

I got to go experience FUN things with the people that matters most --> got lost in an unknown suburb but had the most beautiful shopping street :p, watched a movie that I've been waiting for, went to 2 incredible museum exhibitionss, went to the tallest tower in Melbourne..

I got to go to some sessions of the Planetshakers Awakening & Easter service @Hillsong, listened to world's best preachers! Blessed!

I got to meet old friends and catch up,

and most importantly, I got to take a breath from my uni life :)
.... although, that's not completely true.

I had to take several picts for an assignment, and I had to submit another assignment.
And I'm not done yet. x_x

But it has been so good, and I got that extra push to help me get through and finish semester 1 :D

Getting back to uni is not so bad, it's just the assignments that's annoying.
Assignments, annoying, did I just hear a rhyme?

Annyway,
Can't wait to finish semester 1!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D
