Many people says turning 17 is the start of adulthood. Well, maybe they’re right. But maybe not.
Personally, I love being 16 more than I love 17. You know why? It doesn’t feel as good to be seen as an adult, although kids wait for that moment. People put pressure more on you to be independent, to find who you are, and to "own it".
But that doesn’t mean you should lose touch of the kid that is inside all of us. And that’s why being 17 is very important to me, and I hope for to you too.
Being 17 is the last chance for you to find that child-likeness inside of yourself before the world will do everything it can to take it away from you. Find the little voice inside of you who tells you to dream, and to be brave, and to be imaginative, and to stay young forever. The side of you which will never grow up. The purest form of yourself that should never be put off by anybody.
And when you find it, make sure you keep it safe. Then you may grow up. Explore the world and take risks. Jump the free fall from the highest mountains and dive the deepest oceans. Live large. Have fun. The days ahead are fantastic when you've learned to stay young.
Happy 17th Birthday!
Love, C.
